Sealants serve an important purpose — to protect the back teeth (molars and premolars) against decay. In addition, sealants can be applied to the pits (small hollows) and fissures (grooves) on the teeth’s biting surfaces to keep food and bacteria from getting stuck and causing oral health issues.
The Howard Healthcare Academy Pit and Fissure Sealants course teaches students how to place sealants on a patient’s teeth quickly and effortlessly. Here’s a closer look at our Pit and Fissure Sealants certification class.
What does Howard Academy Pit and Fissure Sealants course offer?
Today’s registered dental assistants (RDAs) require a broad range of skills to assist dentists and dental patients. The Howard Healthcare Academy Pit and Fissure Sealants certification class teaches you how to fill teeth with sealant material that safeguards a patient’s teeth against cavities, tooth decay and numerous short- and long-term oral health problems.
Our 16-hour Pit and Fissure Sealants certification class includes a lecture and hands-on lab that explain each step of the sealant process. On day one, students will participate in a lecture, practice with sealants on artificial teeth and complete an exam. During the second day, students will apply pit and fissure sealants on live patients and gain real-world experience placing sealants on teeth surfaces.
The Pit and Fissure Sealants class also teaches pit and fissure sealants vocabulary and terminology, ensuring you can accurately communicate how sealants work and share this information with patients. The Howard Healthcare Academy Pit and Fissure Sealants class enables you to understand a dental assistant’s (DA) role during a pit and fissure sealant procedure.
The Howard Healthcare Academy Pit and Fissure Sealants certification course must be completed at our Kearny Mesa campus in San Diego and is available to RDAs, as well as DAs who are in the process of applying for their RDA license.
