Pit and Fissure Sealant Course

Sealants serve an important purpose – to protect the back teeth (molars and premolars) against decay. In addition, sealants can be applied to the pits (small hollows) and fissures (grooves) on the teeth’s biting surfaces to keep food and bacteria from getting stuck and causing severe oral health issues.

At Howard Healthcare Academy, we offer a Pit and Fissure Sealant course that teaches students how to place sealants on a patient’s teeth quickly and effortlessly.

Here’s a closer look at our Pit and Fissure Sealant certification class.

What Does Your Pit and Fissure Sealant Course Offer?

Today’s registered dental assistants (RDAs) require a broad range of skills to assist dentists and dental patients. With our Pit and Fissure Sealant certification class, you’ll learn what it takes to fill teeth with sealant material that is essential to safeguard a patient’s teeth against cavities, tooth decay and numerous short- and long-term oral health problems.

Our 16-hour Pit and Fissure Sealants certification class includes a lecture and hands-on lab that explain each step of the sealant process. On day one, students will participate in a lecture, practice with sealants on artificial teeth and complete an exam. During the second day, students will apply pit and fissure sealants on live patients and gain real world experience as they fill teeth with sealants.

The class also will define pit and fissure sealants vocabulary and terminology, ensuring you fully understand how sealants work and can share these insights with patients. And perhaps best of all, our Pit and Fissure Sealant class enables you to understand a dental assistant’s role during a pit and fissure sealant procedure.

Our Pit and Fissure Sealants certification course must be completed at one of our five San Diego area campuses and is available only to RDAs. Upon successful completion of this class, you will receive a pit and fissure sealant certification that will remain valid indefinitely and does not need to be renewed.
